Potassium Iodide, Granular, Laboratory Grade is reffered to by the chemical formula KI and is an inorganic compound. Naturally occuring in Kelp, this white salt is one of the most significant iodide compounds. Produced by treating KOH with iodine, this compound has a variety of uses. Used as a component in film photography before the discovery of silver iodide, it is also used in the electrolyte of dye sensitized solar cells. KI is also used as an emergency blockade of radio-iodine, a common form of radiation poisoning. Laboratory grade products supplied by ScienceLab are indicative of a grade suitable for general industrial use.
