Fluorescein Sodium Salt is a synthetic organic compound that is a common fluochrome dye. It is obtained from the condensation of phthalic anhydride with resorcinol on heating. It is used in dying silk and wool, ink manufacturing, in coloring cosmetics, and in coloring gasoline and as a toner. It is widely used as a fluorescent tracer for many applications. It appears as a yellowish (yellowish-red) to red solid crystalline powder that is soluble in acetone, methanol, hot alcohol, glacial acetic acid, alkali hydroxides, carbonates and water.
